"beersides" - precon party

For the last 2 years we have held a precon party and called it "beersides" (a play on the BSides name!).  They have been resounding successes and a great way to get the BSides vibe going.  There are a lot of people in Manchester for BSides so we decided to bring everyone together for a precon party.

 

​"beersides" will be drinks, talks, socialising and a darn good time.

 

So what to expect?

Beers

Obviously.  We are in a bar, so you can expect to be able to buy beers, or whatever is your tipple.​  The venue is very good for cocktails...

There is no "beersides" sponsor for this event so it is a pay bar.

Timings

Wednesday 28th August

We have the upstairs room of the venue from 6:30pm

Talks starting around 7:30pm/8:00pm

Lightning Talks Schedule

We have hired the upstairs floor of the bar complete with project and sound system, so lets have some lightning talks.  Current planned talks are:

7:30pm - Jonathan Ross - "Something smells a bit phishy... and it isn't my armpits for once"

 

8:00pm - Ken Munro & David Lodge - “Lodge’s Dodgy Dogging Apps - A Security Assessment of Pet Apps”

8:30pm - David Middlehurst - "C3 - A sneak preview of a new open-source C2 framework"

 

9:00pm - Nicky Bloor - "Oh sh!t that’s a network protocol"

Socialising​

There will be loads people form the InfoSec, Cyber, the Hacker community, so it will be a great place to catch up with old mates and make news ones.  It's not all talk talk talk, there will be plenty of opportunity to socialise.

Food

Yes the venue sells food - so don't go hungry - order some.

Capacity

The event is free to attend, but there is a limit on the venue capacity (we didn't reach it last year, but who knows this year...)

Entrance is on a first come first served.  When the venue is full it's full.... The good news is there is a 2nd bar downstairs.
